About us

This is a fantastic time to join team Salford. The city is being transformed through unprecedented levels of development and investment and this growth trajectory is set to continue. Positive change can be seen on the ground across new City Centre neighbourhoods including Crescent, Chapel Street, Greengate, Middlewood Locks and New Bailey, the landmark MediaCity development at Salford Quays (which is set to double in size), the UK’s first tri-modal port at Port Salford and the Royal Horticultural Society’s 5th garden – RHS Garden Bridgewater.  However, this is very much a job just started in delivering the next waves of sustainable and inclusive growth across our strategic growth locations, with the city on track to deliver circa 40,000 new homes and circa 40,000 new jobs by 2040. You can read more about why Salford is a city to watch here.

At the heart of our plans for development is our vision to create a fairer and more inclusive local economy that delivers greater social and environmental justice, where wealth is shared more widely across all our communities.

It is within this context of sustained growth that we are now seeking to grow our Regeneration service through the recruitment of new Project Officers within the Councils Development Team. These roles will help support the next wave of development and investment across our strategic growth areas of City Centre Salford, Salford Quays and MediaCityUK and the Western Gateway, alongside Salford’s Towns, which will become a key focus for the Regeneration service over the coming years.

We are seeking two new team members to bring experience, ideas and new perspectives to Salford and make a direct, visible, positive contribution to Salford’s inclusive growth ambitions for the benefit of our diverse communities.

About the role

The project officer roles provide a unique opportunity to work with multiple teams across the council and with city partners to shape future development and the built environment and help to deliver our ambitious development and regeneration plans.

The Project Officers will work closely with our Principal Programme and Project Managers to help develop and deliver high profile regeneration projects, strategies, and programmes from inception to handover, supporting the ongoing regeneration of the City’s strategic growth areas: City Centre Salford, The Quays and MediaCityUK, Greater Manchester Western Gateway and Salford’s Towns.

The workload is varied and will expose the successful candidates to a wide-range of exciting projects in addition to providing extensive opportunities for significant upskilling through exposure to Masterplanning work, strategy development, the preparation of business cases, funding bids and project management and delivery. The key objective of the roles is to support work to accelerate and bring forward a pipeline of development and regeneration projects and promote the City’s regeneration ambitions.

About you

You will be passionate about development and regeneration and eager to develop your knowledge to help make positive change across Salford’s communities, whilst seeking to implement new and exemplar practices from other cities.

Applicants should be self-driven, resourceful, and able to develop and maintain a strong support network in order to deliver results. You will have a professional approach and the confidence to rise to different challenges across a varied workload.  Above all else, you will need to show commitment to the city and people of Salford and to the City Mayor’s ambition to create a ‘better and fairer Salford for all’ and a desire to deliver against our key priorities to tackle the problems people in Salford are currently facing – known as the Great Eight. https://www.salford.gov.uk/your-council/city-mayor/

The nature of the role means that sound communication, presentation, influencing and negotiating skills are essential, as is the ability to positively engage with internal colleagues from various disciplines across the organisation and a wide-range of external stakeholders.

We have a range of development programmes in place to help develop your skills, behaviours, and confidence to enable your career to thrive within the Council. This includes supporting you to undertake and successfully complete training against the Level 4 Associate Project Management Apprenticeship Standard, to be delivered by an approved training provider.

If you would like an informal discussion about this role, please do not hesitate to contact Dan Welsh (Principal Programme Manager or Peter O’Hare (Principal Project Manager), Development team) via email to arrange a call:

daniel.welsh@salford.gov.uk

We look forward to hearing from you!

Please apply, summarising why you think you would be a fantastic addition to our team. We are a values-based organisation so reflecting our values or a values-based approach in your evidence will support your application.

The ‘key outcomes’ and ‘what we need from you’ sections of the Role Profile are there to give you an understanding of what we would like to see reflected in your covering letter (maximum of 2 pages) and CV.
