Stockport is a great place to live, work and visit. Located between the Peak District, the Cheshire Plain and the UK’s fastest growing city. Stockport is a borough with independent spirit, home to great schools, thriving businesses, great transport links and strong communities.

Aspirational, accessible, diverse and welcoming, Stockport stretches from the borders of the Peak District National Park to cosmopolitan Manchester. The borough is a place of contrasts, offering a sense of balance and variety that is virtually unique. It’s a friendly and fascinating place to live, work and to visit.

Today, Stockport is a place which thinks and acts like a city – it has a population of more than 280,000 and is home to an estimated 16,000 businesses. Stockport forms one of the districts of Greater Manchester and is a major economic player within the North West.

Stockport is one of the most sought-after locations in the region. Manchester is just 7 miles away and the national motorway and rail network pass through the town centre. When it comes to holiday time, Manchester Airport is practically on your doorstep!

The thriving town centre offers a 750 year-old market, the latest most desirable stores and great bars and restaurants. The choice of housing is extensive and standards in education are high. Sports and leisure opportunities include golf courses, leisure centres, award-winning local parks, country manor houses, heritage sites and numerous family day-outs.

Stockport Council and its partners is investing around £1 billion into a range of ambitious projects, each aimed at ensuring Stockport continues to grow. These projects include a brand new leisure development, Redrock Stockport which includes a ten screen multiplex cinema as well as range of retail, restaurants and bars. There is also Stockport Exchange, a modern, mixed-use destination combining office space, a hotel and excellent retail and leisure facilities.

Estimates predict that this investment will bring at least 5,000 new jobs and 1,100 new homes to our town. Local transport networks are also being improved, making it easier to get in and around Stockport, bringing jobs and opportunities closer. New housing developments are being built, ensuring that homes are available and meet the needs and aspirations of all residents.
