We’re all about people here, striving to make #TeamWigan an amazing and inclusive place to live, work and visit. We foster a kind and positive team culture and work collaboratively to support one another to get things done, whilst encouraging innovation and accountability through our BeWigan Behaviours.

As one of the biggest employers in the borough we have focused on our relationship with staff through an innovative range of engagement, reward and recognition initiatives. We were crowned 'Council of the Year' in the prestigious LGC Awards 2019 and iese Awards 2021.

Leader of Wigan Council Councillor David Molyneux said: “Just to be shortlisted in such a prestigious category at these national awards is a great accolade for the council but to win is phenomenal. This is an enormous achievement for us and is acknowledgement of all that has been achieved through The Deal."

Alison McKenzie-Folan, Chief Executive of Wigan Council said: “The recognition Wigan Council gets on a national level is down to the hard work of our brilliant staff. We look forward to continuing to work closely with our partners to reform services and adopting a person-centred approach that has our residents’ strengths at the heart.”

#TeamWiganDeal

Our people are what make Wigan a special place to work and creating a place where we are happy and healthy is at the heart of everything we do. Our #TeamWiganDeal sets out how we work together to create an environment where we can all be our best self.

BeWigan

BeWigan is who we are and how we do things – a shared culture that celebrates our people and their achievements. It helps us to understand the impact we all have, and how we will achieve our priorities as part of The Deal 2030 strategy. It’s all about how we deliver The Deal together.

The BeWigan behaviours encourage our staff to work more imaginatively and more creatively; to leave behind traditional ways of thinking and traditional methods; and to be at the forefront of a new way of working that has the potential to impact positively on people’s lives in Wigan.

Greater Manchester Continuous Service Commitment

Wigan Council alongside many of Greater Manchester’s public sector organisations have signed up to a continuous service commitment.

This means that we will recognise your continuous or ‘unbroken’ service in any Greater Manchester local authority or NHS organisation, Transport for Greater Manchester, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service or Greater Manchester Combined Authority. giving you access to service-related benefits. Employees can make the most of those benefits that are linked to their length of continuous service, such as annual leave entitlement, sick pay and maternity schemes.

The landmark commitment has been achieved as a result of partnership working between Greater Manchester’s public sector employers and our trade union partners. It is an example of how we are using the opportunities of devolution to find better ways to recruit and retain high quality staff in our transforming public services. .
