Find My Application

Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship?

I had already completed a Level 3 Business Administration apprenticeship and found that this wasn’t something I wanted to pursue. I chose to do another apprenticeship at Rochdale Borough Council rather than going back to college or university as I felt these options weren't suitable for me.

I prefer being in a work setting and learning on the job and felt like I wouldn’t gain as much experience if I went to college/university to complete a course.

What skills do you feel you have learnt/developed so far?

I would say my confidence has definitely increased. I also feel like I have developed my people skills massively.

I have also been shadowing professionals from Adult Care and feel this has given me so many new skills and abilities. It has given me the opportunity to explore different aspects of Adult Care and learn exactly what they do in their day-to-day job.

Can you describe what being a Rochdale Council apprentice is like in three words?

Motivating, enjoyable and amazing!

What are you most proud about when thinking of your apprenticeship journey so far?

I am proud to have actually continued on this journey. Upon realising I didn’t want to pursue Business Administration I felt that there was nothing out there for me. I started the Adult Care apprenticeship in the hope that it would help me to explore various opportunities and that is exactly what it did.

I am proud of the work I have carried out and the recognition I have received for this. I am proud that I won Young Employee of the Year!!! This is by far my best achievement and it would have never been possible if I didn’t have the opportunity to progress within the Council.

Would you recommend an apprenticeship to others? And if so, why?

I would definitely recommend an apprenticeship to others. I feel like apprenticeships allow you to gain more experience as you can learn on the job. You get hands on, direct experience and Rochdale Council give you a lot of opportunities to progress and explore your options.
