Text: Ambitious Stockport, creating opportunities for everyone

Welcome to Stockport

At Stockport Council we are one ambitious team on a mission to create opportunities for everyone who lives, works and spends time in the borough. Working at Stockport Council means contributing to one of the most thriving towns in the North. We’re keen to recruit people with the right values and behaviours that can help us ensure our workplace values are at the heart of everything we do.

The past few years have been great for Stockport, with the borough being hailed by the national press as a fantastic place to live and work. The Times Newspaper has recognised Stockport as the best place to live in the northwest of England 2024 and "one of the most exciting towns around".

The years ahead are set to go one step further with many of the Council’s regeneration plans coming to fruition.

A message from our Chief Executive

At Stockport Council, our focus is on building a Stockport that everyone is proud to call home. Our vision is for an ambitious council, one that creates opportunities for everyone who lives, works and spends time in the borough.

We’ve recently been cited in The Guardian newspaper as ‘one of the coolest corners of the country’, and we continue to strive for the very best for all of our residents and businesses. Partnership working is at the heart of what we do, and whatever your role, you’ll find yourself working with our partners across the community, as well as across teams within the council.

We have a strong culture of focusing on performance, with regular reviews to help you boost your career and reach your goals. Our colleagues want to make a difference to the lives of everyone connected to Stockport.
