Interested in career in Health or Care? Want to hear about the latest vacancies? Or just explore how you could move into an exciting new career?

Then come along to one of our community recruitment events which will give you all the information you need.  You’ll find a mix of teams from the NHS, Wigan Council and our partner care providers, all of whom are here to talk to you about any aspect of working in the sector whether it’s about current vacancies, exploring career options or using existing skills to move between roles.

You may be completely new to the world of health and care looking for a local job where you can bring life experiences and your big heart.  We know those experiences bring a unique insight that can’t be taught, and that’s exactly what we’re looking for from future employees.

If you’re great with people and will bring an empathy, enthusiasm and motivation which is crucial to the continued success of our many outstanding services across the borough then we’d like to meet you.  If you’ve a desire to care for others and would like the opportunity to develop your confidence whilst learning new skills in a supportive environment, then Health and Care in Wigan is perfect for you. We are hosting 5 recruitment events and would love you to come along to meet some of our teams and have a chat in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Lowton Social Club – Monday 27th November 2023, 13:00 – 16:00

Tesco Leigh – Thursday 30th November 2023, 16:30 – 19:30

St Richards Parish Centre (Atherton) , Saturday 2nd December 2023 , 12:00 – 15:00

The events are a great place to find out about some of our vacancies, what a day in the life of the job looks like, what’s required to work in a role and what we’re looking for.

Here is an example of some of the roles we will be showcasing:

Wigan Council Reablement Team - Our roles are aimed at promoting independence and helping people regain the ability to do day to day tasks so that they can stay living at home. Join a dynamic forward-thinking team focused on staff development and progression with fantastic career options.

Care to join us Support Worker roles - We're looking for enthusiastic, caring and friendly individuals to join our care teams. You’ll either work directly for the council or for our trusted partners who provide care services. You’ll be part of buzzy, busy teams caring for and supporting people to live their happiest life possible. Here’s a taster of where you could work:

Home Care -You probably see people working in home care as you go about your day as half of our support teams choose to walk or cycle between people’s homes; great when we can guarantee you’ll be working somewhere local to home. The work is very varied and you’ll get to know the people you’re supporting each day with mealtimes, medication, morning showers or getting out and about.

Supported Living - We’re an ever-growing team supporting adults with learning disabilities in various types of accommodation. You might be supporting in their home or out and about enjoying their local community.

GP Practices and Primary Care - Some of our GP surgeries are looking for admin team members to support with them running smoothly. You might even find that your local surgery is one of them. Come along and see what vacancies are available on your doorstep.

Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS  Foundation Trust - Greater Manchester Mental Health (GMMH) Foundation Trust employs over 6,400 members of staff, who deliver services from more than 160 locations. We provide inpatient and community-based mental health care for people living in Bolton, the city of Manchester, Salford, Trafford and the borough of Wigan, and a wide range of specialist mental health and substance misuse services across Greater Manchester, the northwest of England and beyond. Our people enjoy their work, have opportunities to learn and develop their skills and are encouraged to generate new ideas that improve care for our service users.

Adult Learning -The team will be at all events to offer help, support and enrolment advice for those looking to find out more about the great range of Adult Learning courses available.

Early Years -  Come and see our Early years team to discuss free childcare or to discover how you can become a registered childminder in your own home.

Childrens Residential - Want to make a difference to Children and Young People in Wigan? Hear from our amazing staff working in residential currently, who are excited to share with you the reasons to come and join us as Team Wigan has so much to offer.

Customer Services - Are you looking to start a new career but worried about direct payments ? Come and chat to our friendly customer services team who can help you understand your benefits.
