Home from Home Fostering Scheme Could you care for a child with autism or other disabilities? Stockport Council have a “Home from Home” service which provides overnight care for children with disabilities in the carers own home. We are currently looking for an enthusiastic, energetic and dedicated couple to become contracted carers for our home from home service specialising in supporting children either with autism or other disabilities on a 2:1 basis. The carers would be expected to provide 210 overnights per year in their own home and would be matched with several children. (Most children using this service will be offered 24 overnights per year, although this can vary I some cases depending on individual need.) A comprehensive training package is provided tailored to the individual needs of carers and young people in care. Caring for a child with additional needs can be a very rewarding experience. If you feel that you have the relevant skills and experience to care for children with autism and other disabilities, then why not consider the “Home from Home” service. Carers will be required to live in the Stockport area. As a “Home from Home” carer you may also be asked to care for you children who do not have autism but do need 2:1 care because of another disability. For instance, epilepsy, downs syndrome and some children with physical disabilities.
