Autism Base Teacher:

New Bridge School’s discrete Autism provision is a consistent environment for students with a diagnosis of autism and associated complex needs. The curriculum echoes that of the main school and students enjoy all subjects and have full access to all the school’s facilities. The main focus in the Autism Base is to develop social interaction, self and sensory regulation and communication skills.

This supports the pupils to express their wants, needs and emotions in more appropriate ways. These pupils are working towards a destination of playing a part in their community and are likely to require lifelong support to do so. The class teachers in these settings focus largely on EHCP outcomes and deliver the majority of subjects to pupils. Enrichment subjects like PE, Music and Art are delivered by

a specialist teacher. The class groups in the Autism Base range between 6-7 pupils and have a much higher staff to pupil ratio. We are looking for a class teacher for a group in this provision.

Due to the complex nature of our students, high levels of emotional and physical resilience are needed. However, the knowledge that our work is making a positive impact in helping the young people to grow and work towards independence brings great reward.

With this post, we would be interested in applicants with experience of supporting children or young people with Autism or Special Educational Needs within the primary sector.

The successful candidates will:

• Be excellent practitioners with the commitment and motivation to inspire pupils’ learning and development.
• Have experience of teaching young people with Autism or Special Educational Needs within the primary or secondary sector or have a specific interest in developing their teaching skills in a special school setting.
• Have high expectations of young people, and a commitment to raising standards of attainment to ensure that they can achieve their full educational potential
• Have experience of enhancement of pupil progress gains and raising attainment and achievement levels of all students
• Be able to demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and innovation through imaginative and differentiated lessons which meet individual needs
• Have experience of current assessment practice and the use of data and pupil progress tracking to ensure that all groups of learners achieve
• Possess the emotional and physical resilience necessary when working with young people with a range of complex needs
• Be able to build positive relationships with the class group, ensuring consistency and continuity on a daily basis.
• Have the ability to foster good relationships with other staff, pupils, parents and the wider community
• Be hard working, organised and proactive in their professional development
• Be a team player who can work effectively with all members of the New Bridge team

The posts will be based initially at New Bridge School in Hollinwood; however, all staff are employed by the MAT and are expected to work at any site within the New Bridge Group.

This post will be subject to a number of pre-employment checks including an enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and proof of right to work in the UK in accordance with the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996. Salary: Teachers’ / Unqualified Teachers’ Pay Range

Allowances: SEN allowance (£2,787 per annum) plus Base Allowance (£2,106 per annum)

Hours of work: 1.0 FTE

Based: New Bridge School, Roman Road, Hollinwood, Oldham, OL8 3PH

Status: Permanent
