Salary: Grade 4, £15,557 - £16,311 per annum. £13.26 - £13.90 per hour

22.5 hours per week, Full Year

The Governors of Douglas Valley Nursery School are seeking a Caretaker who will be wholly committed to the school’s interests and the welfare and safety of children and staff. The successful applicant will work under the direction of the Headteacher and School Business Manager as part of an enthusiastic and conscientious team.

Main Duties and Responsibilities include:

• to play a key part in ensuring the school environment is a safe and pleasant place for children, parents, staff and visitors.
• the security of the building and contents, unlocking and locking and managing access to the school grounds during busy periods.
• efficient use of lighting and heating.
• to work with existing cleaner to maintain a high level of cleanliness across the whole school site.
• porterage duties to assist with handling deliveries, etc.
• reporting defects and safety hazards to the School Business Manager to ensure that high standards are maintained.
• routine maintenance and some gardening duties to be undertaken
• to respond to occasional emergency or security call outs
• Dealing with contractors and ensuring work is completed
• Carrying out health and safety checks

Flexibility and willingness to work as part of our team are essential as the successful candidate may be required to work additional hours.

Initial hours of work (term time): 4.5 hours per day, Monday to Friday, split shifts, starting 6.30-9.00am and 4.30-6.30pm. However, during school holidays, hours/ days may be condensed to provide cover for any contractors booked into school.

Holidays: To be taken in school holidays only, as agreed in accordance with service demands.
