We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Science Technician to join our fantastic team at CHS South.
This is a permanent post working 35 hours per week, term time only plus 5 INSET days. The starting salary is £22,710 and the full time equivalent is £26,403 Grade 4.


We’re looking for:
We are seeking a dedicated, organised, and enthusiastic Senior Science Technician to join our Science department. The successful candidate will provide high-quality technical and practical support across the Science curriculum, ensuring a safe, well-resourced, and stimulating learning environment for our students.

This is a key role within the department. You will work closely with teaching and associate staff to support the delivery of engaging and effective Science lessons, enabling students to become confident, creative, and successful learners. You will also contribute positively to the wider life and ethos of the school

Main purpose of the job:
 
To work collaboratively with teaching and associate staff to support students in becoming creative, happy, and successful learners.
The postholder will provide specialist technical support within the Science department, including the preparation, maintenance, and safe use of equipment, materials, and resources.
The role will make a significant contribution to the effective delivery of the curriculum and the wider development of the school.
Key responsibilities will include:
 
  • Supporting pupils in accessing learning activities under the guidance of the teacher and providing appropriate feedback on progress and achievement where required.
  • Creating and maintaining a purposeful, orderly, and productive working environment within laboratories and preparation areas.
  • Ensuring the timely and accurate preparation and safe use of specialist Science equipment, apparatus, chemicals, and materials.
  • Maintaining accurate records, data, and documentation, including stock control and health and safety records.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and ensuring the health, safety, and wellbeing of pupils at all times, in line with school guidance.
  • Monitoring and managing stock within an agreed budget, cataloguing resources, and undertaking audits as required.
  • Carrying out routine maintenance, safety checks, and minor repairs to specialist equipment, arranging external servicing where necessary.
  • Demonstrating and assisting in the safe and effective use of specialist equipment and supporting practical demonstrations and structured learning activities under appropriate supervision.
  • Providing specialist advice and guidance to staff within the Science discipline.
  • Keeping up to date with developments in Science education, equipment, and technology, supporting staff in evaluating new resources and curriculum developments.
  • Supporting safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality, and equality policies, reporting any concerns appropriately.
  • Working collaboratively as part of a team, attending meetings and training, and contributing positively to the ethos and aims of the school.
  • Providing technical support beyond lesson time, including extracurricular activities, offering short-term cover within the department, and assisting with exam invigilation where appropriate.
  • Supporting the line management, induction, and development of other technical support staff where required.

CHS South is a 11-16 eight-form entry, mixed, comprehensive school opened in conjunction with Chorlton High School in 2018. Our school provides a full capacity of 1200 in our brand-new building which opened in September 2021.
