Join us at Stockport Council MJ Local Authority of the Year 2025 Your Role This is an excellent opportunity for someone with passion, professionalism, and a desire to serve the public, to join our dedicated Welfare Rights Support Officers Team. As part of the wider Resident Advice Servicewhich includes Welfare Rights and Debt Advice, and Crisis Support, you will play a crucial role in delivering specialist welfare benefits advice directly to residents in their own homes. You will be part of an experienced homevisiting service that supports residents who are unable to access officebased or telephone advice. You will provide expert guidance on benefits, assist with claims, gather evidence, and ensure vulnerable residents receive the support they need in a setting that feels safe and accessible to them. About You We’d like to hear from you if you bring strong knowledge and experience in welfare benefits and have the confidence to work independently in residents’ homes. You should be an excellent communicator, empathetic, and committed to providing highquality, personcentred support. This role suits someone who is naturally compassionate, patient, and able to build trust with residents who may be isolated, anxious, or living with complex needs. About Us You will be joining a supportive, highly experienced and skilled team that takes pride in offering a traumainformed, flexible, and accessible advice service. Our home visit team plays a vital role in reaching residents who face barriers to engagement, helping to ensure no one is left without the support they need. We provide welfare rights advice through a blend of home visits, community outreach venues, office appointments, and telephone support. While the role includes travel across the borough, we also promote flexible working and ensure colleagues feel supported, valued, and able to maintain a healthy worklife balance. The successful applicant’s appointment will be subject to satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service check. Stockport Council holds a Visa sponsorship licence but this can only be used for certain roles and this campaign does not currently qualify.
