Join us at Stockport Council MJ Local Authority of the Year 2025

About the project

The Greater Manchester Toddler Mental Health Hub is a two year, GMCA funded test and learn project, hosted by Stockport Council on behalf of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority.

The project focuses on understanding and improving the social, emotional and mental health of toddlers aged 25 years and their families. Working across all ten Greater Manchester boroughs, the Hub will:

  • work directly with families and the early years workforce
  • test evidence based and innovative approaches
  • provide training and workforce development
  • help design a sustainable GM wide model for toddler and parent mental health.

Who this role is for

This role is ideal for an experienced Early Years Practitioner or Assistant Psychologist with a strong interest in toddler mental health who wants to contribute to service development at a Greater Manchester scale.

You will be motivated by improving outcomes for toddlers and their families and interested in helping shape a modern, inclusive GM wide Toddler and Parent Mental Health Hub. The role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the design and delivery of an innovative model for toddler mental health, including gathering family views, supporting evidence based interventions and contributing to workforce training across Greater Manchester.

As this is a Greater Manchester wide test and learn project, applications are open to candidates who are currently working within Greater Manchester.

Your Role

You will work under supervision to support delivery, learning and engagement within the Toddler Mental Health Hub. Duties include carrying out observations, parent interviews, questionnaires and feedback activities; supporting clinicians to prepare and co facilitate toddlerparent groups; organising clinical resources; and maintaining accurate, confidential records.

The role also supports research and evaluation through data collection, data input, simple analysis and preparing summaries or presentations. You will assist with awareness raising activity, digital content and training logistics, support GM wide scoping work, gather family feedback and contribute to partnership working.

You will follow safeguarding and GDPR requirements, participate in supervision and team activities, manage a supervised workload and uphold Stockport Council values.

About You

You must hold a Level 3 Early Years / Childcare qualification. A Psychology degree or further training in applied psychology, mental health or child development is desirable.

You will have experience working with children aged 05 and their families, either as an Early Years Practitioner or Assistant Psychologist, and experience of data input and basic analysis, supporting training activity and using digital platforms for engagement.

You will have knowledge of toddler development, parental mental health, screening tools and safeguarding, along with strong communication, IT and organisational skills. You will be able to work effectively with families and professionals, use supervision well, travel across Greater Manchester, and demonstrate a genuine interest in toddler mental health.
