Old Trafford Regeneration (OTR) offers a unique regeneration opportunity to potentially deliver one of the largest investment and regeneration projects in Europe that will deliver a step change in economic performance and quality of life for the area and beyond.

Manchester United have announced their intention to build a new 100,000 seater stadium and adjacent sports district, with an estimated cost of c£2bn. The new stadium will act as a unique catalyst for further investment in Trafford Wharfside. A revised planning and development framework is being produced now to support expected growth which aims to deliver up to 17,000 additional homes and create over 90,000 new jobs. This will cater for the expected population growth, boost the supply of labour/skills in the economy, and will also support wider growth in GM.

If the proposed regeneration plans are delivered, the net impact would be an additional 1.76 million visitors to GM of which just over 710,000 would be international and visitor spending would rise by 7.1% in real terms.

A Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC) for OTR was established and officially launched in early 2026 . The MDC will drive forward the wider regeneration proposals, working alongside MUFC who will lead on stadium re-development, and bring the necessary powers required to deliver the comprehensive change required.

This role will be working in the OTR MDC Team working closely alongside Trafford Council and GMCA.
