We provide essential waste and recycling services to 84,500 households and around 1,400 businesses across Bury. Our service is for everyone, and we’re committed to building a workforce that reflects the diverse community we serve. What you’ll be doing

You will play a key role in delivering a safe, highquality and customerfocused waste and recycling collection service, including:

  • Driving waste collection vehicles safely across the Borough
  • Leading, supporting and motivating your crew to deliver an efficient, highquality service
  • Assisting with loading duties when required as part of a teambased approach
  • Using incab technology to report issues, record activity and access route information
  • Ensuring all work is carried out safely in line with Council health and safety policies
  • Following instructions and working together using a teambased approach
  • Handling customer interactions professionally and passing feedback/messages to Supervisors
  • Ensuring waste is tipped correctly and safely at designated facilities
  • Ensuring correct vehicle checks, safe operation, and compliance with road safety regulations

What we’re looking for

You’ll be someone who:

  • Enjoys working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Works well within a team and follows instructions confidently
  • Has a positive, reliable approach and pride in delivering a quality service
  • Communicates clearly and respectfully with colleagues and the public
  • Leads by example and contributes to a respectful working environment
  • Is selfmotivated with good problemsolving skills
  • Communicates clearly and confidently with colleagues, agency staff and the public
  • Handles difficult or confrontational situations calmly and professionally
  • Takes pride in delivering a reliable service for the community
  • Holds a current Class II LGV licence
  • Holds CPC qualification (or is willing to undertake / maintain ongoing training)
  • Is physically capable of vehicle cleaning and assisting operatives with bins where needed
  • Is willing to undertake any training relevant to the role (including NVQ Level 3 in Waste Management if required)

Hours, training and development

  • 37 hours per week, TuesdayFriday, 06:4516:30
  • Occasional evening/weekend work to meet service needs
  • Full training provided including NVQs, CPC training and induction support
  • Training may take place outside normal hours and at other locations
  • Opportunities to gain further skills, qualifications and career progression
  • Supportive operational team and clear management structure
