All candidates should show a commitment to engaging with professional development and an understanding of the needs of children with communication, language and interaction barriers. Candidates should have experience of planning for and working with pupils with SEND, in particular, communication, language and interaction e.g. children with autism. Evidence of delivering phonics is desirable. Candidates should have experience of engaging with parents, colleagues and other professionals to support the development of all pupils. They should be able to manage a number of support staff and liaise regularly with the SENDCO. As well as being able to work effectively as part of a team, they need to be creative, show initiative and be able to adapt teaching to enable all pupils to engage with the curriculum at their developmental level.
