Qualified Teacher Pay Scale

Full Time

Required for September 2026

Do you want to inspire, challenge and make a difference?

Do you want to work at a school where staff thrive and students flourish?

Do you want to teach English in a school where relationships matter, where wellbeing isn’t just a slogan, and where teachers genuinely enjoy coming to work?

At Bedford High School, English is central to our ambition to help every young person discover, develop and demonstrate their potential. We are looking for a teacher who shares that passion. We recognise that developing a love for reading is one of the most effective ways to raise attainment as it is the master skill that unlocks the academic curriculum. But more importantly, we know that reading for pleasure is the key to a successful life. Therefore, it is vital that our students read for pleasure and, in order to promote this, we have one dedicated reading lesson a week at KS3. We are very lucky to have a recently renovated library, which has been transformed into a bright, modern, welcoming haven for students to read, to study and to discuss literature with friends.

The English Faculty is a great team: we are collaborative, innovative and very supportive of each other. Within the team, we have a strong mix of experienced and early-career staff, creating a supportive environment where all teachers can continue to develop and flourish through shared guidance and collaboration.

We are passionate about the young people in our care and we have high expectations for each and every student. Our curriculum is rich, engaging and challenging, using high quality texts to develop students emotionally, culturally, socially and spiritually. Evidence-based teaching is at the heart of our pedagogy thus ensuring quality first teaching and learning occurs in all lessons.

We recognise that developing a love for reading is one of the most effective ways to raise attainment, as it is the master skill that unlocks the wider curriculum. More importantly, we believe that reading for pleasure plays a vital role in shaping successful, well-rounded individuals. Therefore, it is essential that our students develop positive reading habits. To support this, we provide a dedicated reading lesson each week at KS3. We are also fortunate to have a well-resourced, welcoming librarya bright and modern space where students can read, study, and engage in discussion about literature with their peers.

We have a record of strong results and are very proud of our successes, including our 2026 English outcomes, with 83% of students achieving grades 94 and 29% achieving grades 97.
