Contract Type: Permanent Contract Hours: 37 Hours Salary: NJC Grade E SCP 12 - 17 £28,598 - £31,022 Closing Date: 6th May 2026 at 23:59 pm About the Role We are looking for a committed, professional, and customer-focused Licensing Officer to join the Licensing Service. This is a key role supporting the delivery of the Council’s Licensing Service, ensuring that applications, enquiries, and compliance matters are handled efficiently, accurately, and in line with legislation and local policy. You will play an essential part in protecting the public, supporting local businesses, and maintaining high standards across licensed activities within the town. Key Responsibilities · Process and issue a wide range of licences in accordance with statutory requirements, local policies, and established procedures. · Receive and accurately record application information, ensuring all required documentation is complete before processing. · Take and process payments in line with Council financial procedures. · Respond to customer enquiries via phone, email, and face-to-face, providing clear, accurate advice and signposting to relevant policies or guidance where appropriate. · Prepare reports for management and Elected Members, and present or explain reports verbally at meetings or hearings when required. · Identify potential non-compliance issues and refer them appropriately to management or relevant agencies. · Maintain confidentiality and handle personal information in accordance with Data Protection legislation. · Identify risks, trends, or opportunities for improvement within the Licensing Service and make recommendations to enhance service delivery. · Collaborate with Licensing Officers, including cross-checking documents and supporting casework. · Manage difficult or sensitive conversations with professionalism, empathy, and assertiveness—particularly when delays, refusals, or compliance issues impact applicants. About You We are looking for someone who is: · Organised and thorough, with strong attention to detail. · Able to communicate clearly, both in writing and verbally, adapting style to suit the customer. · Confident in handling challenging conversations, showing empathy while maintaining professionalism. · Customer-focused, with the ability to remain impartial and fair. · Comfortable working with legislation, policies, and procedures, or willing to learn. · IT-literate, able to upload documents, manage digital records, and use Council systems. · Experience in licensing, regulatory services, customer service, or administrative roles is beneficial, but full training will be provided. · Make a direct impact on public safety and community wellbeing. · Work within a friendly, supportive licensing team. · Opportunities for training, development, and progression. · A role with real variety—no two days are the same. to view the Job Description.
