The Building Surveying Team where this role sits, is within the Property and Asset Management Service of Blackpool Council. This service is responsible for the design and delivery of a large and varied portfolio of exciting building related projects across the town. Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre Council have also recently agreed a joint working arrangement and therefore you will also be working with colleagues in the adjoining local authorities on all property related matters.

In this service we pride ourselves on delivering high quality, cost effective, environmentally friendly buildings and are looking for an enthusiastic and engaging Principal Building Surveyor to manage a team of Surveyors who provide professional technical advice enabling clients to plan and manage their premises management responsibilities effectively. The successful candidate must also be able to produce planning and building regulation drawings and specifications, be confident and self-assured, with excellent communication skills the ability to lead the wider team and projects from inception to completion.

The successful applicant will already have chartered status such as RICS / CIOB or similar or working towards with a strong back ground in construction and building surveying. 

This role requires a combination of technical expertise and strong interpersonal skills, so we’re looking for someone who is both approachable and skilled. We seek a Principal Building Surveyor who brings enthusiasm and dedication, contributing to our ongoing success. The ability to forge lasting relationships with clients and colleagues is crucial, so a collaborative, team-focused approach is essential. You should be technically proficient and resilient, able to handle challenging conversations with clients when necessary. We’re looking for someone who takes ownership of building projects and strives to be an aspirational leader. Above all, your professionalism and integrity will inspire trust and confidence with clients, your team, and other stakeholders.

You will bring strong commercial awareness, a genuine passion for construction and design, and a solid understanding of the legislation that governs our work. Your technical expertise will enable you to identify potential building issues and develop effective solutions. This role offers the opportunity to write specifications and complete design requirements ahead of tendering. Additionally, your proficiency in AutoCAD will allow you to present technical information accurately through detailed graphical representations of the building work we undertake. You will be tasked with assessing various buildings of different ages and conditions, focusing on future-proofing and maintaining them for our local communities. By joining our team, you'll apply your industry knowledge to exciting projects, including remodelling and refurbishments, asbestos removal, building defect repairs, extensions, and future decarbonisation initiatives.
