The Headteacher and Governing Body of Newbridge Learning Community are delighted to invite applications for the position of Higher Level Teaching Assistant. About the role

The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Headteacher, Senior Leadership Team and teaching staff to support high-quality teaching and learning across Key Stages 3 and 4.

As an HLTA, you will take responsibility for planning, preparing and delivering learning activities for individuals, small groups and, where appropriate, whole classes on a short-term basis. You will support pupils’ academic, social and emotional development, ensuring their individual needs are met in a nurturing and structured environment.

The role also includes leading on a specialist curriculum or ‘Options’ subject area, contributing to curriculum development, and supporting the wider work of the school.

This post is ideal for colleagues with strong SEMH experience who are confident in leading learning, supporting colleagues, and promoting inclusive education.

Key responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality learning activities for individuals, groups and whole classes under agreed supervision
  • Assess, monitor, record and report on pupil progress, development and attainment
  • Adapt teaching approaches to meet pupils’ individual needs, including those with SEMH and complex needs
  • Establish positive, professional relationships and act as a role model for pupils
  • Promote inclusion, independence and engagement in learning
  • Support behaviour management in line with school policies, including use of positive handling where appropriate
  • Lead learning in a specialist subject or curriculum area
  • Contribute to planning, resource development and curriculum delivery
  • Support and, where required, line manage Teaching Assistants, including mentoring and performance support
  • Work collaboratively with SLT, teachers, parents, carers and external professionals
  • Contribute to meetings, including EHCP reviews, PEP meetings and parental consultations
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of all children and young people

What we’re looking for

  • HLTA status or a commitment to achieving HLTA standards within an agreed timeframe
  • NVQ Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (Level 4 desirable)
  • GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above)
  • Minimum of two years’ experience working with children or young people in a school setting (TA Level 3 or above)
  • Experience of working with pupils with SEMH and/or complex needs
  • Experience or confidence in leading a subject area or delivering structured learning
  • Strong communication, organisational and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of child development, behaviour strategies and inclusive practice
  • Ability to work collaboratively and lead, motivate and support colleagues
