About the role

We have two exciting positions available of Apprentice Leisure Team Member whose role is to form an integral part of the leisure team working within leisure facilities in Salford.

The positions will be based at two of our busiest facilities -

Vacancy No 1: Eccles Leisure Centre, Barton Lane, Eccles M30 0DD

Vacancy No 2: Swinton & Pendlebury Leisure Centre, Cromwell Road, Pendlebury, M27 9SZ

Both facilities attract a large number of attendances, and both have a growing membership with a variety of fitness classes delivered each week.

Fixed term contracts: 15 months commencing 27 July 2026

Working Hours: Fixed Shifts - please refer to the working hours attached

A 15 month journey / opportunity open to everyone who is passionate about leisure, fitness & helping their community

  • Earn as you learn
  • Achieve at least 3 Nationally recognised qualifications
  • National Pool Lifeguard Qualification
  • Level 2 Swimming teaching Qualification
  • Level 2 Gym Instructor Qualification

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has good communication skills
  • Can handle enquiries from customers effectively
  • Has good motivational skills
  • Has commitment to a high standard of customer care
  • Is able to work on own initiative
  • Is able to work as an efficient member of a team
  • Consistently demonstrates SCL’s behaviours
  • Will assist in delivering an efficient and high-quality service in relation to pool lifeguarding, health and fitness programmes, supervision of changing rooms and common areas and maintaining the very highest standards of cleanliness
  • Will be focused on health and safety at all times
  • Will be a driving force behind increased memberships and attendances

Please note: As part of the interview process, all applicants will be assessed on the following:

  • Jump/dive into deep water.
  • Swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds
  • Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back
  • In deep Water, tread water for 30 seconds.
  • Surface dive to the floor of the pool
  • Climb out unaided without ladders/steps and where pool design permits.

Successful candidates who do not hold a National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) must be available to attend an NPLQ course / assessment on the following 6 consecutive dates:

Monday 27th July 2026 Saturday August 1st 2026 - 8:30am 5:30pm

The content of the course will be a mixture of skills and theoretical knowledge in both a classroom and pool side setting.
