Purpose of the Role

To complement and enhance the work of teachers by taking responsibility for planning, delivering, and evaluating teaching and learning activities for individuals, groups, and whole classes. A key element of the role is to deliver highquality wholeclass teaching cover, including during teacher PPA time and other planned or unplanned absences, ensuring continuity of learning and positive behaviour. The postholder will also contribute specialist support to our learners with a range of needs, while upholding the school’s commitment to safeguarding and inclusive

Objectives of the Role

  • To confidently deliver wholeclass teaching cover, maintaining high expectations, curriculum progression, and positive behaviour in line with school policies.
  • To plan, prepare, and deliver learning activities under the direction of teachers, adapting lessons and approaches to meet diverse pupil needs.
  • To support learner assessment by monitoring progress, providing feedback, and contributing to evaluation of learning during both cover and support sessions.
  • To use specialist knowledge to support learning with additional learning, behavioural, communication, or language needs.
  • To collaborate with teachers, support staff, parents/carers, and external professionals to ensure continuity, inclusion, and highquality provision.
  • To act as a role model, demonstrating professionalism and strong behaviourmanagement skills during cover and support roles.


We are seeking to recruit a TA4+ who will demonstrate:

  • Have substantial experience supporting teaching and learning, with the ability to plan, prepare, deliver, and evaluate learning activities for individuals, groups, and whole classes.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of the curriculum, learning needs, and strategies to support pupils with a range of abilities
  • Be confident delivering wholeclass cover, maintaining high expectations and positive behaviour in line with school policies.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with learners, staff, parents/carers, and external partners, promoting inclusion, respect, and high aspirations.
  • Show initiative, flexibility, and excellent communication skills, with the ability to support, direct, and motivate colleagues, trainees, and volunteers.
  • Be committed to safeguarding, promoting the welfare of children and young people, and upholding the school’s values and professional standards.
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to professional development and a willingness to contribute to the wider life of the school.
  • Willingness to teach at least 12 lessons per week.
