Interview Date: Wednesday 17th June 2026

Together we nurture curious, respectful, aspirational individuals.

Thorn Grove Primary School is a welcoming, nurturing and highly inclusive one-form entry primary school where inclusion sits at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to ensuring every child thrives by removing barriers to learning and building strong relationships with families so that all children feel valued, safe and successful.

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and compassionate SENDCo to lead and further develop our SEND provision across school. The successful candidate will join our Senior Leadership Team and play a key role in shaping outstanding inclusive practice and provision for our learners and families. Our SENDCO must model and lead the ‘we can’ culture that permeates throughout our school.

We have a highly developed SEND offer, including:

  • A curriculum where speech, language and communication are central to learning and development.
  • Trauma Informed Practitioners across school
  • GROW principles embedded within practice
  • PACE language and relational approaches at the heart of our provision
  • Well-developed assessment systems and screeners to identify barriers to learning early and effectively
  • Embedded adaptive practices regularly evaluated by all teachers
  • An Assistive Technology lead to offer advice regarding access to learning
  • A strong speech and language offer, including WellComm assessments and a home learning ‘talk bag’ library.
  • Weekly Speech and Language Therapist Support
  • Robust systems to evaluate the impact and effectiveness of provision for learners
  • A Behaviour mentor who supports families, coaches staff and supports our most vulnerable children.

We are proud to host a specialist resource base within Thorn Grove Primary School for children with hearing impairment, visual impairment and multi-sensory impairment. This provision is supported by close collaboration with specialist teachers and external professionals to ensure the highest quality of education, tailored support and expert guidance for both pupils and staff. We work in partnership with specialists to embed best practice across school, ensuring that individual needs are accurately assessed and that targeted strategies, adaptations and interventions enable every child to access learning fully and achieve their potential.

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold the National Award for SEN Coordination (or be willing to work towards it)
  • Believe wholeheartedly in a “we can” culture and inspire this mindset in pupils, staff and families alike
  • View SEND not as a barrier, but as an opportunity for growth, learning and meaningful change across the whole school community
  • Be passionate about creating environments where every child can flourish, recognising that when a child experiences difficulty, it is our provision, practice and relationships that must adapt to meet their needs so they can thrive
  • Lead with warmth, integrity and optimism, while making decisive and deliberate choices that secure the very best outcomes for children with SEND
  • Champion inclusive practice through high-quality adaptive teaching, relational approaches and ambitious expectations for all learners
  • Work collaboratively with staff, families and external agencies to build strong partnerships that place children’s wellbeing, voice and potential at the centre of decision-making
  • Be reflective, solution-focused and committed to continually developing provision through evidence-informed practice and professional learning
  • Support and empower colleagues to grow in confidence, expertise and understanding so that inclusion remains everyone’s responsibility
  • Have strong leadership, organisational and interpersonal skills, alongside a deep commitment to nurturing both children’s emotional wellbeing and academic success

We are currently in a consultation process regarding joining The Laurus Trust and are excited about the significant professional development, collaboration and career opportunities that this partnership will bring for our staff and wider school community.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and providing a broad and balanced curriculum and we expect all staff to share this commitment.
