The Governors, staff and children of The Gates Primary School wish to appoint an outstanding Assistant Teacher to join our highly motivated and dedicated team, where they can share and utilise their expertise. The post is from September 2026 and is full time 32.5 hours.

We are seeking to appoint an Assistant Teacher who:

Has experience of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and child development

Has experience of supporting children with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) and Down Syndrome

Is confident working with young children with a range of additional learning needs

Has experience of working within a multi-agency approach to support children and families

Has a good understanding of early education and is able to extend and support young children’s learning

Has high expectations for pupil achievement, communication, and behaviour for learning

Is committed to creating an inclusive, nurturing, and language-rich learning environment

Demonstrates a willingness to reflect, learn, and develop professionally

Is proactive and able to support individuals and small groups both within and outside the classroom

Is willing to contribute to the wider life of the school

Essential Qualifications:

NVQ Level 2, BTEC Level 2, or equivalent in Teaching Assistant / Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools

GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths Desirable:

ELKLAN training (or equivalent) in Speech, Language and Communication support

Training or experience in supporting children with Down Syndrome (or equivalent SEND training)

First Aid Training
