The Headteacher and Governing Body of Newbridge Learning Community are delighted to invite applications for the position of Teaching Assistant Level 3. About the role

The successful candidate will work under the guidance of teaching and senior staff, within an agreed system of supervision, to support teaching and learning across Key Stages 3 and 4.

You will implement agreed learning programmes for individuals and small groups, both in and out of the classroom, and assist teachers with planning, preparation and assessment. The role will also involve providing targeted one-to-one support for a named pupil(s) alongside general classroom support, ensuring pupils can access learning in a structured and supportive environment.

You may also be required to supervise whole classes during the short-term absence of a teacher, maintaining good order and ensuring pupils remain on task.

This role is ideal for candidates with experience of supporting pupils with SEMH and complex needs, who are confident in managing behaviour positively and promoting engagement, independence and inclusion.

Key responsibilities

  • Support pupils using specialist skills, adapting approaches to meet individual needs
  • Provide one-to-one support for named pupil(s) alongside wider classroom support
  • Assist in planning, delivering and evaluating learning activities with teachers
  • Monitor, record and report on pupil progress and achievement
  • Support the development and implementation of individual education plans (IEPs)
  • Promote positive behaviour in line with school policies, including responding appropriately to challenging behaviour
  • Establish positive relationships with pupils, acting as a role model
  • Encourage pupils’ independence, engagement and participation in learning
  • Support the use of ICT and access to the curriculum
  • Prepare and maintain learning resources and classroom materials
  • Contribute to record keeping, marking and assessment processes
  • Liaise effectively with staff, parents/carers and external professionals as required
  • Support pupils during break times, trips and enrichment activities where required
  • Contribute to the wider life and ethos of the school, including attending meetings and training
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of all children and young people

What we’re looking for

  • NVQ Level 3 for Teaching Assistants (or equivalent qualification)
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above)
  • Minimum of two years’ experience working with children or young people in a school setting
  • Experience of supporting pupils with SEMH or additional needs
  • Strong understanding of child development and strategies to support learning and behaviour
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team within a classroom environment
  • Good communication, organisational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and adults
  • Commitment to safeguarding and inclusion
  • Positive handling training (or willingness to undertake)
