WE ARE LOOKING FOR YOU!

About Us

At Outwood Primary School, our motto is ‘we care, we learn, we grow’. We are a warm, inclusive, and vibrant community school dedicated to ensuring every single child feels a deep sense of belonging from the moment they step through our doors. Guided by our ACORN core values (Aspirational, Curious, Open-minded, Respectful/Resilient, Nurturing), we work tirelessly to create an environment where all pupils can thrive.

We know that for children to achieve their full potential, they need to be in school, feeling safe, happy, and supported. We are looking to appoint an empathetic, driven, and highly proactive Learning Mentor to join our team, specifically focusing on breaking down barriers to attendance and championing our most vulnerable learners.

The Role
As a Learning Mentor, you will be a vital bridge between home and school. You will work dynamically with pupils, families, and external agencies to tackle absence and provide targeted pastoral intervention for vulnerable children (including those with SEND, or eligible for Free School Meals).

Key Responsibilities:
Drive Attendance Initiatives: Identify patterns of non-attendance early, working closely with families to establish supportive, practical action plans to get children back into the classroom.
Pastoral Support: Deliver 1:1 and small-group mentoring sessions focusing on emotional regulation, building resilience, and self-esteem.
Vulnerable Pupil Advocacy: Act as a key point of contact and safety net for vulnerable children, ensuring they feel secure, valued, and ready to learn.
Family Liaison: Build strong, non-judgmental relationships with parents and carers to rebuild trust and foster collaborative relationships with the school.
Multi-Agency Collaboration: Partner with Stockport Local Authority teams, social care, and health professionals to ensure early intervention framework actions are delivered effectively.

About You

You are someone who looks past a statistic to see the child behind it. You don't just ask why a child isn't in school; you dedicate yourself to fixing the root cause.

Essential Requirements:
Proven experience working with children or families in an educational, social care, or youth-work setting.
A deep understanding of the barriers that impact primary school attendance and the challenges faced by vulnerable families.
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills - the ability to have warm but honest and firm conversations with adults and children alike.
Extreme resilience, patience, and a non-judgmental approach to pastoral care.
Excellent organisational skills for tracking data, monitoring trends, and maintaining robust safeguarding records.

What We Can Offer You
An incredibly supportive, friendly, and visible leadership team.
A genuinely caring school environment where your well-being matters as much as the pupils'.
Opportunities for continuous professional development (CPD) and trauma-informed practice training.
The chance to make a profound, tangible difference in the Heald Green and wider Stockport community.

Safeguarding Notice: Outwood Primary School is strictly committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
