We are actively seeking to find a committed and experienced SEND Teacher to join our exceptional team, to teach within one of 4 school curriculum pathways Pre formal, Informal, Semi formal and formal.

Your Role

As a SEND Teacher at Heaton School you will play a pivotal role in providing tailored education and support to
students with special educational needs. You will be responsible for developing and delivering engaging lesson plans, fostering inclusive learning environments, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the optimal well-being and academic progress of each student.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualised education programs (IEPs): Collaborate with parents, specialists, and other professionals to create and implement IEPs that cater to the unique learning styles and needs of each student.
  • Deliver engaging and differentiated instruction: Utilise a variety of teaching methods and resources to ensure that lessons are accessible and promote active learning for all students.
  • Subject lead for assigned subject area (working in collaboration with pathway curriculum leads)
  • To be passionate about developing practice around relevant pedagogical research linked to SEND.
  • A commitment to developing practice through ongoing CPD and collaborative working.
  • Maintain a safe and supportive learning environment: Foster a classroom atmosphere that is conducive to learning and promotes social-emotional development.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and stakeholders: Keep parents informed about their child's progress, attend meetings, and actively participate in collaborative decision-making processes.
  • Contribute to the school's wider SEND provision: Participate in team meetings, share best practices, and contribute to the ongoing development of the school's improvement.
  • Maintain accurate student records and documentation: Ensure that all relevant documentation is up-to-date and complies with relevant regulations.

About You

We are seeking an exceptional teacher with:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and experience teaching SEND: A proven track record of success in supporting students with special educational needs. Newly qualified teachers will be considered subject to past experience.
  • A good knowledge and understanding of SEND legislation and best practice: Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and experience working within a range of SEND frameworks.
  • An excellent understanding of school curriculum and assessment processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: Ability to build strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • A passion for inclusive education and a commitment to making a difference: A genuine desire to support students with special educational needs to reach their full potential.
  • Flexibility and adaptability: The ability to adapt teaching styles and approaches to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • An ability to work effectively as part of a team.
