We are looking for a warm, dependable Teaching Assistant (Level 1) to join our team and support pupils to achieve their best.

The Headteacher, Governors and children of our friendly school are looking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced Teaching Assistant to work in any area of the school.

All posts will work under the direction/supervision of teaching staff. Applicants are required to be enthusiastic, warm and friendly, and experienced in supporting children with a range of learning difficulties, preferably with a background in behavior support. The job will include a contribution to the delivery of a differentiated curriculum enabling meaningful inclusion and access to learning.

About the role

As a Teaching Assistant (Level 1) you will play a vital role in classroom life and pupil wellbeing. Working under the direction and supervision of class teachers and senior staff, your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting pupils’ access to learning through preparation and delivery of learning activities
  • Helping to maintain a safe, hygienic and inclusive classroom environment
  • Supporting personal care and wellbeing where needed, including moving and handling and hygiene support in line with agreed guidance
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and pupils’ independence in learning
  • Helping to set up and maintain classroom displays and basic resources
  • Contributing to pupils’ social, emotional and communication development through positive interactions and play

This position involves working as part of a team, contributing to planning and evaluation of learning activities and supporting pupils with special educational needs where required.

About you the ideal candidate

We are looking for someone who can bring energy, patience and a real commitment to pupil development. You will have:

  • A warm, respectful approach that builds strong relationships with pupils and colleagues
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills and a willingness to develop your ICT capabilities
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a classroom team, following guidance from teachers
  • A strong commitment to inclusion, safeguarding and maintaining a safe learning environment
  • Willingness to undertake or work toward relevant qualifications (for example Level 2 functional skills, a QCF in Teaching and Learning, and Paediatric First Aid where applicable)
  • Flexibility to attend occasional meetings outside school hours and to support pupils with personal care where required

Experience of working with children in an educational setting is desirable, but we welcome applicants who are committed, reliable and eager to learn and develop.
