  • Hours: 8:30am 16:30pm, Monday to Thursday, 8:30am - 12:30pm Friday (Term Time plus 5 days)
  • Contract Type: Permanent
  • Salary: £20,100

About Us

Elysium Training provides alternative provision for young people with significant barriers to learning, all of whom have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). We specialise in supporting learners with SEND, primarily those with SEMH needs, offering KS4 intervention and a post-16 curriculum.

Our programmes combine construction-based vocational pathways with Preparing for Adulthood and employability skills, delivered through a trauma-informed, relational approach.

About the Role

We are seeking to appoint a Pastoral Safeguarding Lead to join our specialist team.

The successful candidate will:


  • Provide operational leadership for safeguarding, learner welfare and pastoral support across the provision
  • Act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL), supporting the Designated Safeguarding Lead to maintain effective safeguarding systems
  • Lead and coordinate safeguarding referrals, record keeping and multi-agency working
  • Provide guidance and support to staff on safeguarding responsibilities, professional boundaries and learner welfare
  • Oversee pastoral interventions relating to behaviour, attendance, wellbeing and learner engagement
  • Build positive relationships with learners, families and external professionals to promote successful outcomes
  • Champion trauma-informed, relational and restorative approaches across the organisation
  • Work collaboratively with the pastoral team to create a safe, stable and supportive environment where every learner can thrive

Who We Are Looking For

  • Experienced in safeguarding practice within education, youth work or social care
  • Confident working with vulnerable learners, including those with SEND and SEMH needs
  • Knowledgeable about safeguarding legislation, referral processes and multi-agency working
  • Calm, resilient and able to make sound decisions in complex situations
  • Committed to trauma-informed, relational practice
  • Professional, organised and able to maintain high standards of confidentiality
  • Passionate about improving outcomes for vulnerable young people through high-quality pastoral support

Experience within alternative provision or specialist SEND settings, together with experience as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead or safeguarding lead, would be advantageous but is not essential.

  • Uphold the highest standards of safeguarding practice in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education (2025), Working Together to Safeguard Children (2023), the Care Act (2014) and local WSCP / WSAB procedures
  • Maintain professional boundaries and safer working practice
  • Understand the additional vulnerabilities experienced by learners with SEND and SEMH needs
  • Act with integrity and in line with Elysium’s values at all times
