Purpose of the Role

To lead the school's catering provision while delivering engaging food education that develops students' independence, confidence and preparation for adulthood. The postholder will provide nutritious meals across the school, support off-site learning through food preparation, and deliver practical food skills and accredited Level 2 Food Safety training as part of the vocational curriculum.

Key Responsibilities

Catering & Food Provision

  • Plan, prepare and serve healthy breakfasts, lunches and snacks for students and staff.
  • Prepare food for the Vocational Skills Centre, Forest School and other off-site learning activities.
  • Develop menus that promote healthy eating whilst meeting individual dietary, medical, sensory and cultural needs.
  • Manage food purchasing, stock control and kitchen budgets.
  • Ensure consistently high standards of food quality and presentation.


Kitchen Management & Compliance

  • Maintain the kitchen in accordance with food hygiene legislation and HACCP requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, allergen management, COSHH and Health & Safety legislation.
  • Complete food safety records, cleaning schedules and risk assessments.
  • Maintain kitchen equipment and ensure safe working practices.
  • Promote excellent standards of cleanliness and organisation.


Vocational Learning & Food Education

  • Plan and deliver practical food skills sessions for individuals and small groups.
  • Deliver accredited including Level 2 Food Safety training to students.
  • Teach food preparation, nutrition, menu planning, budgeting and safe kitchen practice.
  • Develop students' independence, employability and preparation for adulthood through practical learning.
  • Adapt learning activities to meet the needs of students with SEMH, autism and additional learning needs.


Student Engagement & Wellbeing

  • Use cooking and food preparation to build confidence, emotional regulation and positive relationships.
  • Encourage teamwork, communication and problem-solving through practical activities.
  • Support students to develop healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching, SEND and wellbeing teams to support individual outcomes.


Professional Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Vocational Skills Centre.
  • Contribute to enrichment activities, themed events and family engagement opportunities.
  • Participate in safeguarding, supervision and professional development.
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to the role.
