Blackpool Children's Services is seeking a motivated, compassionate, and skilled Family Worker to join our Children with Complex Needs Assessment & Short Breaks Team. This is an exciting opportunity to work with children and young people with disabilities and their families, helping them access high-quality short break services that improve outcomes, build independence, and enhance family wellbeing. 

About the Role

As a Family Worker, you will play a key role in supporting children and young people who receive short break services. You will work directly with children, parents, carers, providers, and partner agencies to ensure support plans continue to meet assessed needs and deliver positive outcomes.

You will contribute to assessments, reviews, and support planning, helping families identify strengths, understand available services, and access opportunities within their communities. The role involves developing positive relationships with children and families, ensuring their voices are heard, and supporting them to achieve the best possible quality of life. 

You will:

- Work directly with children and young people to understand their experiences, wishes and feelings.
- Support the delivery, monitoring and review of short break packages.
- Assist families to access appropriate services, activities, community resources and direct payments where applicable.
- Undertake direct work with children and families to promote independence, resilience and positive outcomes.
- Liaise effectively with schools, health professionals, providers and other agencies.
- Support social workers with assessments, reviews and care planning processes.
- Monitor the quality and impact of short break arrangements and identify any changes in need.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to safeguarding and risk management processes.
- Promote the rights, wellbeing and inclusion of children with disabilities. 

About You

We are looking for someone who:

- Has experience working with children, young people and families.
- Has a good understanding of disability, additional needs and the challenges faced by parent carers.
- Is passionate about improving outcomes for children and families.
- Can communicate effectively with children who may have complex communication needs.
- Builds strong professional relationships and works collaboratively with partners.
- Is organised, resilient and able to manage a varied workload.
- Has recording and report-writing skills.
- Understands safeguarding responsibilities and promotes excellent practice.

Experience of working within children's services, education, health, social care or community-based support services would be advantageous.
