School Business Manager


Salary: Grade H SCP 27 31 £39,481 to £43,149 pro rata
Hours: Full-time 37 hours per week, term time plus 10 days
Contract: Permanent
Start Date: As soon as possible

The Governors are seeking an experienced, highly organised and motivated School Business Manager to lead and oversee the school’s business and operational functions.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team, ensuring the school operates efficiently, effectively and within a strong financial and strategic framework.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the school’s financial management, budgeting and financial planning.
  • Oversee procurement, contracts, purchasing and supplier relationships.
  • Manage premises, facilities, maintenance and health & safety arrangements.
  • Support HR, payroll and staff administration.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with the Headteacher and Governors on strategic planning and resource management.
  • Lead and develop administrative and support staff.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and value for money.
  • Contribute to the continued development and success of the school.

We are looking for someone who

  • Has experience in financial, business or operational management, preferably within a school or education setting.
  • Has excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Is confident managing budgets and making informed financial decisions.
  • Can prioritise effectively and work calmly under pressure.
  • Has strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Is committed to safeguarding, equality and providing an excellent service to pupils, staff and the wider school community.
