The staff and Governing Board are seeking to appoint an experienced, knowledgeable and passionate Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to join our senior team.

Bowlee Park Community Primary School is a large, four-form-entry primary school with over 900 pupils, so we recognise that effective SEND provision requires dedicated leadership, time and expertise. This is therefore a non-teaching SENCO position, providing the successful candidate with the capacity to lead, coordinate and develop high-quality provision for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities across the school.

Working closely with the Headteacher, senior leaders, teaching staff, support staff, families and external professionals, the SENCO will take a strategic lead for SEND across the school.

This is an exciting opportunity for an excellent practitioner who is passionate about inclusion and committed to ensuring that every child receives the support they need to thrive.

Successful candidates will join a very supportive team and be provided with high quality induction, CPD and support.

You will:

  • Determine the strategic development and implementation of the Special Educational Needs (SEN) policy and provision in school
  • Be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the SEN policy and coordination of specific provision to support individual students with SEN or a disability
  • Have completed/be willing to complete National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordinators, or from September 2024, the NPQ for SENCOs within three years of appointment to post
  • Ensure that the school carries out its statutory responsibilities regarding all students with SEN or a disability
  • Be responsible for the effective assessment of pupils with SEN, planning high quality provision, supporting staff to understand, resource and deliver provision and reviewing progress.
  • Compile and submit requests for education and health care needs assessments and funding for pupils
  • Prepare annual review schedules for pupils with EHCP’s, all related paperwork and lead annual review meetings
  • Support the induction and training of teachers and Teaching Assistants to deliver high quality provision for pupils with SEND
  • Liaise with the Local Authority SEND team and a range of external agencies - work with key staff from the support services and implement strategies recommended
  • Provide support to parents/carers of pupils with SEND, arrange meetings to discuss SEND support and referrals
  • Be responsible for effective transition through working closely with feeder settings to gather transition and SEND information for EYFS staff and supporting transition for pupils with SEND to high school
  • Be an excellent and inspirational teacher with high expectations of learning and behaviour
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of what constitutes high quality teaching and learning for all pupils
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills and the commitment to work as part of a team
  • Model the vision and values of the school.
  • Recognise, promote, and celebrate diversity.

We offer you:

  • An ‘Outstanding’ school, committed to excellence;
  • Enthusiastic, welcoming and friendly children
  • An experienced, hard-working and supportive team of staff and governors
  • A school committed to ‘Knowledge... Your Passport to the World’
  • Exciting opportunities for professional development and career progression
