An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Grade 8 Social Worker who is keen to pilot an innovative model of working with young people in the context of Brownhill Learning Community.
ACT (Achieving Change Together) is a strength and relationship based model developed in Rochdale and Wigan and co-designed with young people. The aim of the model is on increasing stability for young people and reducing the risk of exploitation. The model is focused on the future ambitions and best hopes of young people, and relies on an ACT worker who follows the ACT principles and takes the time to build a meaningful and trusting relationship with the young person, providing them with intensive early support. The ACT worker takes the young person through the ACT pathway in order to help them identify their goals and together build their ambitions plan. This model is actively used in the Complex Safeguarding Teams across Greater Manchester, including Rochdale, and has proven to be successful in working with adolescents.
Given the success of the model, it has been agreed that we will further embed the use of the ACT model within our Pupil Referral Service. The focus will be on achieving stability both within the young person’s education but also within their home environment, alongside reducing the risk of not only exploitation but anti-social behaviour and serious youth violence.
Full training on the ACT model will be provided and support will be given through the Greater Manchester wide ACT Practitioner Group. Supervision will be provided by the Complex Safeguarding Practice Manager.
