As part of the raising Rochdale agenda to raise life ambitions for all learners in a collaborative manner, we are thrilled to share Springside Primary Special School is extending its curriculum pathways and are therefore seeking to appoint a temporary class teacher. Applicants must have a passion for meeting the holistic needs of learners with SEND and support the inclusion agenda. Applicants must be motivated, resilient practitioners, with a growth mindset who place learners at the heart of what they do, always seeking to develop their practice and strive to ensure the best possible outcomes for all in our community.

At Springside we believe in supporting our learners to be independent, to enjoy every element of their lives, to achieve more than they can imagine and have a real sense of

self-worth. We believe in challenging the ‘we have always done it this way’ mind-set, together as a community. As such, we have created a Gateway learning team and welcome practitioners who will support learners to be ‘Calm enough to engage and alert enough to learn’.

At present as a generic special school catering for 130 learners aged 4-11 years, we have 3 phases to ensure we provide a specialised and personalised curriculum. In September 2023 we launched a ‘Learning for life’ hub to run alongside our finely tuned pathways.

Our Experiential Phase is predominantly for our learners with profound and multiple learning difficulties often alongside complex medical needs. In this phase activities and sessions are planned carefully to engage the learners so that areas ofexploration, realisation, anticipation, persistence and initiation can be observed.

Our Exploratory Phase is predominantly where our learners with social communication difficulties learn, which can present as behaviour which challenges us at times. In this phase developing the use of functional expressive communication is central to learning. Independence is always encouraged through a tiered system of adult modelling, sabotage and reducing adult support.

Our Investigative Phase is predominantly where our learners who’s learning difficulty is their primary need. Developing understanding and expression of feelings and emotions is central to learning, we offer a needs-based curriculum, where appropriate, using specific elements of the National Curriculum in a carefully tailored approach. Each utilising and developing learner’s skills to encourage investigation, expression and independent learning. Each learners' capabilities are considered and individual needs are fully met, educationally, socially, emotionally and physically.
