About the communications service
Communications is a core function that supports the organisation as a whole, across all portfolios and directorates. Our core responsibilities are:
To protect and promote the Council’s reputation, integrity and identity, nationally, regionally and locally, including through proactive media management strategies
To design, deliver and promote campaigns that help the city and the organisation achieve its priorities
To design, deliver and promote communications that give residents clear information, advice and guidance, signposting to council services and promoting activities, events and opportunities
To provide professional communications advice to the Council’s leadership, with a view to promoting the city’s and City Council’s key priorities and values
We are strengthening our corporate communications function through additional resourcing and a new operating model. We need people to help deliver on corporate priorities and our communications strategy.
This is an exciting time to join Salford City Council. There is major regeneration work underway across the city alongside internal change, including the Adult Social Care workforce returning in house through the Unify project. There are opportunities to influence the national, regional and local government agenda.

Senior Internal Communications Officer
As Senior Internal Communications Officer at Salford City Council, you will lead the strategic approach to internal communication across the organisation, shaping how we engage, inform and connect with more than 4,500 colleagues working across desk based, frontline and essential service roles.
You will work closely with the Head of Communications, Corporate Management Team and senior leaders to provide expert internal communications advice and leadership. You will be responsible for ensuring that internal communications are clear, inclusive and aligned to the council’s priorities, values and culture, using a blend of digital channels, face to face engagement and creative storytelling.
This role plays a critical part in supporting organisational change and transformation, ensuring that colleagues understand key decisions, feel part of a shared mission and have the information they need to deliver for Salford’s residents. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of the organisation and to bring consistency, clarity and energy to internal communications across the council.
