Human Resources

Working in HR means having the opportunity to not only work in HR but also payroll, pensions, operational HR, recruitment and HR systems. Our role is to support the organisation and its workforce so they can deliver quality public services to the residents, workers, students and visitors to the borough of Rochdale.

  1. What opportunities are avaliable?

We have a range of roles offering some great career development:  HR Ops Officer, Payroll Officer, Pensions Officer, Team Leader, HR Systems Officer, HR Advisor, HR Business Partner, Service Manager

  2. What is my route joining HR?

Our jobs are advertised on the Greater Jobs website and open to all.  The Council also has an award-winning apprenticeship scheme with new recruits joining every year.  It is also possible for existing employees to move roles within the Council through applying for advertised vacancies.

  3. Will there be progression opportunities?

We offer learning and development opportunities, fair and competitive salaries, flexible working arrangements and opportunities to develop and grow your career both within the HR service and across the Council. We want our staff to succeed at Rochdale, however that may look for them.

  4. Where would I be based?

You would be based on Number One Riverside in Rochdale, however we do operate hybrid working arrangements so there would be the chance to work from home for part of the week.

  5. What skills and experience do I need?

This will depend very much on the role/s you are interested in.  However, all our roles require people who are committed to good team working, communication skills and IT skills and can demonstrate our values of Proud, Passionate, Pioneering and Open.

  6. Do I need to go to university?

No, not at all.  Whilst some roles will require a professional qualification, there may be opportunities in other roles to obtain the qualification whilst working which in turn can support your career progression.  There are many examples of staff you have joined us straight from school or college and have flourished within the service and Council.

So what are you waiting for?
