Safeguarding Officer

Start Date: 5^th January 2026 or as soon as possible after that

Salary Scale: Grade 9 SCP 36-40

Salary Values: £41047- £44679

Available as 35 hours per week, term time only plus 3 weeks

The postholder will be one of the DSLs.

We are currently seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join our dedicated and welcoming Inclusion team.

The successful candidate for this role will have a keen interest and experience in safeguarding children and working with families, and the desire to provide a safe environment for our children.

Given the important responsibilities of this key position within our Inclusion team we are seeking a candidate who holds a diploma or degree in social work or a relevant field and/or someone who has extensive experience in safeguarding, family support and inclusion.

Overview of Main Responsibilities:

• Creating and promoting a culture where safeguarding is paramount and understood and valued by all staff, children and families. This includes training staff and providing advice and guidance to staff with regards to safeguarding concerns. It also includes proactive preventative work with children and families so that later interventions are less likely.
• Taking a lead on referring and discussing all cases of suspected abuse to the Local Authority Children’s Social Care, playing a crucial part in creating a safety plan for the child and appropriate course of action. The appropriate actions can include:
  • over-seeing referrals that are being led by Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads
  • referring cases to the Disclosure and Barring Service where a person is dismissed or has left due to risk or harm to a child
  • referring cases where a crime may have been committed to the police
  • Taking a lead in strategy discussions and inter-agency meetings and/or supporting other staff to do so creating and contributing to an accurate and full assessment of the child’s lived experience
  • Monitoring closely all incidents that are recorded on our CPOMs system
  • Advising and supporting staff (including overseeing Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads) to assess appropriate actions needed
  • Keeping detailed, accurate and secure written records of concerns and referrals
  • Writing reports (that meet the required legal standards) for child protection meetings, conferences and court proceedings
  • Building capacity and processes within school for staff to be able to manage the high level of safeguarding issues that take place

This involves a whole school commitment and understanding of early intervention support and processes.
