Commencement date: This post is to commence January 2026.

Salary: L18-L24 - The leadership point will be offered in line with the skills and expertise of the appointed individual

The Governors, staff and pupils of Ellenbrook Community Primary School are seeking to appoint an aspirational, collaborative Headteacher to fulfil this exciting role in our school, where every child’s potential is nurtured, every family’s ambitions are supported, and every staff member’s dedication is celebrated.

Ellenbrook is a two form entry primary school, with a single entry Nursery and very popular wrap around care, via a breakfast and after school club. A supportive school community, with parents who are engaged and heavily invested in their children’s achievements, both academically and pastorally, surrounds our bright and enthusiastic pupils. This, coupled with a passionate, nurturing and dedicated staff and a strong, proactive Governing Board, is what makes our school very special.

Our school’s ethos is built upon teamwork and mutual respect. Staff, parents and governors work together to ensure that each student is empowered to achieve their utmost potential. As we embark on this journey to find our next Headteacher, we invite candidates who share our passion for education, our commitment to maintaining high academic standards and the well-being of every child to apply. We are encouraging applicants who possess strong, dynamic leadership skills that will empower all stakeholders to work together with a shared ethos and belief in our school.

We would like someone who will:

  • Be an ambitious and experienced Headteacher and relish the opportunity to be involved in the development of a new school vision; develop and sustain a creative, forward-thinking and inclusive learning culture for all across our school.
  • Be a friendly, approachable, proactive and inspirational leader who can share and clearly communicate their ambitions for the long-term future and development of the school, bringing new perspectives and initiatives and build upon our strengths.
  • Be a positive role model and reflective practitioner, with the ability to motivate children and staff alike, inspiring all to reach their full potential, whilst engaging and encouraging the appetite for learning within the whole school community, with sensitivity and understanding.
  • Further a culture of collaboration and personal development with high regard for staff support, wellbeing, professional development and resilience.
  • Be an innovative Headteacher who recognises the benefit of opportunities outside the classroom - developing life skills and an understanding of the modern world, whilst fostering the best possible outcomes for every child, through creative teaching and learning.
  • Have a strong business and financial understanding and work collaboratively with our Business Manager and Governors to maintain our secure financial position while continuing to provide exceptional opportunities to our pupils.
  • Work with our committed staff team to ensure we continue to strive for, maintain and look to improve the already high standards, as recognised in our recent OFSTED inspection, and further empower our middle and senior leaders to build upon the broad curriculum already in place.
  • Value every child and strive to ensure that both pupils and staff have high aspirations for achievement.
  • Further develop our use of technology throughout and have a commitment to develop the whole child through the curriculum and in exciting extra curricular activities, providing fulfilling educational, cultural and sporting development - continuing to make learning a happy and engaging experience for every child.

We can offer:

  • Friendly, confident and enthusiastic children, who make excellent progress and achieve exceptionally well, displaying very positive attitudes towards learning.
  • A welcoming environment with support from parents, carers and governors who prioritise education.
  • An exciting opportunity to bring a fresh approach to a sought after school with an incredibly passionate, highly dedicated and ambitious staff team, who have an ongoing commitment to continued professional development.
  • A professional, skilled and supportive Governing Board who are fully invested in achieving success for the pupils and promoting staff wellbeing.
  • Community support and collaboration with families in annual school activities.
  • A thriving and dedicated PTA already extremely well established with very well attended and popular events running throughout the academic year.

Our children would like you to be someone:

  • Who cares about us all and is a presence around our school.
  • Who is enthusiastic, hardworking and an excellent educator.
  • Who is kind, responsible, makes good decisions and is an excellent listener.
  • Who values our safety and mental wellbeing and that of the adults who work at our school.
  • Who respects others and helps us understand the meaning of respect.
  • Who understands our school community and what we are passionate about.

Visits to our school are positively encouraged. Please contact the school office on 0161 799 6347 to arrange your visit.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the safety and welfare of children and young people. All staff and volunteers are expected to share this commitment and all appointments will be subject to appropriate vetting, including an enhanced DBS disclosure check.

Applying Authentically With AI: Our Greater Manchester Approach

Across Greater Manchester’s local authorities, we want to hear your genuine experiences, skills and motivations, expressed in your own words.

To keep our recruitment process fair and inclusive, please complete your application personally and follow the instructions carefully. AI can be used to support you - for example, to help structure your answers or as a reasonable adjustment - but your application should still reflect your authentic voice. If you do use AI as a support tool, a brief explanation helps us ensure an equitable selection process.

Applications that depend too heavily on AI‑generated content may not progress to shortlisting.

This guidance outlines acceptable and unacceptable uses of AI, along with suggestions for using it in a way that supports you while keeping your application true to you.

  1. What Is AI and How Do We Use It Across Greater Manchester?

AI refers to technology that can create or refine content, such as text, ideas, summaries, or planning. It can help improve productivity, problem-solving, and creativity.

We’re open to using innovative digital tools where they can help us work smarter and deliver better services for our residents. However, every use of AI is carefully considered to make sure it is ethical, responsible, and aligned with public-sector values.

When it comes to recruitment, we take a human-centred approach.

    This means:

    • A trained hiring manager reads every application

    • Shortlisting is based on objective criteria required for the job

    • Interviews are conducted in person or via teams by the hiring manager for the role

    • All hiring decisions are made by hiring managers, not algorithms

AI does not make decisions in our recruitment process and our managers are being upskilled to spot AI in applications, particularly when this might have been used in a way that doesn’t feel genuine. If something in an application raises a question or concern, we will test this out with assessments or at the interview stage to confirm authenticity.

Our aim isn’t to catch anyone out but to make sure we’re getting to know the real you, giving every candidate a fair chance and finding the right person for the role.

  2. Using AI in Your Application

When it comes to job applications, what matters most to us is you. We want to see your personality, your experience, and what excites you about joining our team.

We recognise that AI can be a helpful tool to support accessibility during the application process. If you choose to use AI for support, please read the instructions carefully and make sure your application is written in your own words, reflecting your genuine skills, knowledge, experience and enthusiasm.

We’re looking forward to hearing your story.

  3. How to use AI Effectively and Responsibly

Your application is your chance to show us:

    • Who you are

    • What you can bring

    • The values you hold

    • Why you want to make a difference

AI can help you organise your thoughts or improve clarity but it cannot express your unique voice, experiences, or motivations.

AI is most helpful when used to:

    • Help you structure the information you are providing to evidence the criteria

    • Give examples of how to use STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result)

    • Proof-read to highlight grammar or spelling errors

    • Provide inspiration if you're finding it difficult to find the right words to explain something

But remember: your honesty, lived experience, and motivations are irreplaceable.

  4. Do’s and Don’ts for Using AI in the Recruitment Process

    Do:

    • Use AI as a supportive tool, not a replacement

    • Ask AI to help tidy up your writing or clarify structure

    • Use it to brainstorm examples, then rewrite them in your own voice

    • Reflect on AI suggestions and adapt them to match your experience

    • Use AI to help with research, but express your understanding yourself

    Don’t:

    • Copy and paste AI-generated content directly into your application

    • Let AI exaggerate or invent experience you do not have

    • Rely on generic statements that don’t reflect the specific role requirements

    • Remove your individuality, we want to hear your voice
