About the Role

We are seeking a committed and skilled Community Learning Officer to lead our work with Unaccompanied Asylum Seekers and Refugees across the borough. This is a vital position within our Education Safeguarding Team, focusing on ensuring that every child is identified promptly, safeguarded effectively, and supported to receive an education that enables them to thrive.

After being vacant for 12 months, this role needs someone with the passion, drive and expertise to revitalise the service and provide strong, proactive leadership.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

• Lead on the identification, assessment and ongoing support of UASC and refugee children in Bury.
• Ensure robust processes for safeguarding, monitoring, tracking and informationsharing across agencies.
• Work as part of the Education Safeguarding Team and contribute to safeguarding reviews in schools.
• Build strong relationships with schools, social care, voluntary sector partners and community groups.
• Ensure children access appropriate education in a timely manner, removing barriers and supporting smooth transitions.
• Monitor progress and outcomes, helping to ensure that educational attainment for children across the borough continues to improve and exceed national averages.
• Provide professional leadership, guidance and expertise in all matters relating to UASC and refugee education.

About You

You will bring:

• A strong understanding of safeguarding, statutory guidance and the needs of vulnerable children.
• Experience supporting asylumseeking or refugee communities (or comparable vulnerable groups).
• Confidence in analysing safeguarding risks and responding appropriately.
• Excellent communication and partnershipworking skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders.
• A childcentred, compassionate approach that puts the needs and welfare of young people first.
• Strong ICT and data handling skills with the ability to use digital systems confidently to track cases.
• Motivation, initiative and the ability to restore and revitalise a service that is both needed and valued.

Normal hours of work are 37 hours per week based around the usual business working week. Dependent on service requirements, you may be required to work on a rota basis.
