About the role This is a really exciting time to join the Rochdale Highway Service to support our in-house highway operational delivery team. We provide a wide range of functions from gully emptying and pothole repairs through to other reactive repairs and out of hours call out. We also manage the winter maintenance service including gritting and snow clearance which is considered to be a much-valued service by the Rochdale community and local ward councillors. About you To assist with the management and leadership of our in-house highway operational delivery team we are looking for an enthusiastic person to take up the role of Office Manager following the retirement of the current post holder. You will assist in the delivery of all support services, including, financial support; project and technical support and administration. You will also ensure appropriate levels of operational, technical and customer services are provided at all times. You will have strong analytical skills and be responsible for collating and managing relevant data and promoting the continuous improvement of services. You will work closely with collegues across the highway service to assist in ensuring that all highway related activity supports the aims and objectives of the service and the council as a whole. When it comes to recruitment, we take a human-centred approach.
This means:
A trained hiring manager reads every application
Shortlisting is based on objective criteria required for the job
Interviews are conducted in person or via teams by the hiring manager for the role
All hiring decisions are made by hiring managers, not algorithms
AI does not make decisions in our recruitment process and our managers are being upskilled to spot AI in applications, particularly when this might have been used in a way that doesn’t feel genuine. If something in an application raises a question or concern, we will test this out with assessments or at the interview stage to confirm authenticity.
Our aim isn’t to catch anyone out but to make sure we’re getting to know the real you, giving every candidate a fair chance and finding the right person for the role.
