About the Role

This role is based within the Regulatory Services at Trafford Council. Regulatory Services delivers a wide range of statutory and enforcement functions that protect public health, safety, and wellbeing, and ensure compliance with relevant legislation.

Regulatory Services currently includes teams covering Trading Standards, Licensing Enforcement, Licensing, Environmental Health, Environmental Protection, Private Sector Housing, Pest Control, Building Control, Community Safety, and Emergency Planning. These teams provide specialist knowledge and advice across areas such as consumer protection, licensing and registration, environmental health, housing standards, and public safety.

You will work within this multi-disciplinary service and report to a designated Team Leader but may also take direction from other Team Leaders for aspects of your role. The work undertaken by Regulatory Services is essential to the Council meeting its statutory obligations and directly contributes to corporate priorities, including reducing health inequalities and safeguarding communities.

About You

  • Experience supporting project processes and understanding project management techniques
  • Strong communication skills across varied audiences and channels, to provide information, which is clear, concise and effective
  • Experience supporting performance management and working towards set targets
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office and other digital tools. (e.g Microsoft Office). including spread sheets, presentation tools, and word processing
  • Track record of providing administrative and project support
  • Experience using financial systems and procedures, budget preparation, monitoring and control of accounts
  • Broad understanding of the services provided by the Directorate
  • Knowledge and understanding of equality and diversity issues
  • Active listening and effective verbal communication skills and ability to adapt personal style to meet the needs of the audience
  • Experience of communicating with a wide range of audiences using appropriate communication channels to provide information, which is clear, concise and effective
  • Ability to quickly assimilate and evaluate a wide range of information/data
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet competing deadlines
  • Effective organisational and planning skills
  • Competent ICT and strong numeracy skills
  • Ability to manage project activities
  • Ability to work as a team player and be supportive to colleagues
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and proactively resolve problems using own initiative
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels both internally and externally
  • Level 4 qualification or equivalent qualifications and experience or commitment to work towards
  • Evidence of continuous personal and professional development.
