Salford Permanent £54,495 - £56,288 Flexible Hybrid Expires 14/08/2026
About us At Salford City Council, information governance is central to how we deliver trusted, transparent and effective public services. We are committed to using information responsibly, protecting people’s rights and supporting services to make confident, lawful decisions. Our Information Governance Team works collaboratively across the council, providing expert advice, constructive challenge and practical support on data protection, freedom of information, records management and information security. This is an opportunity to join a supportive, knowledgeable and ambitious team where your expertise will make a visible difference to colleagues, residents and the wider city. The Information Governance Team is part of the Legal & Governance division of the Corporate Services directorate and we are based at the Civic Centre. About the Role We are looking for an experienced and confident information governance professional to take on the role of Deputy Information Governance Manager. Working closely with the Information Governance Manager, you will help lead a professional, council-wide compliance programme that supports good decision-making, reduces risk and embeds strong information governance practice across a large and complex organisation. You will provide trusted advice to senior managers, services and partners; represent the team at meetings and working groups; support the management of complex information governance matters; and take an active role in developing policies, procedures, assurance activity and staff capability. You will also help lead and develop the team, bringing professional credibility, fresh thinking and a continuous improvement mindset. When required, you will deputise for the Council’s statutory Data Protection Officer. This is a varied and influential role for someone who enjoys working at both strategic and operational levels: shaping good governance, solving complex issues, supporting colleagues and helping the council demonstrate accountability in the way it manages information. About you You will bring strong technical knowledge, sound professional judgement and the confidence to advise, influence and challenge appropriately. You will be able to translate legislation and policy into practical guidance, helping services understand not only what they need to do, but why it matters. A strong working knowledge of data protection legislation is essential, alongside experience of handling complex information governance issues in a compliance, regulatory or public sector environment. We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate leadership, line management or supervision experience; the ability to work confidently with senior stakeholders; and a positive, improvement-focused approach to developing services and supporting colleagues. You will be collaborative, resilient and solutions-focused, with the ability to balance legal compliance, organisational priorities and excellent customer service. If you are ready to step into a senior role where you can shape practice, support a committed team and make a meaningful contribution to public service, we would be keen to hear from you.
