Blackpool Children's Services has been on an incredible journey of transformation. In June 2026, Ofsted recognised the remarkable progress made in Blackpool, judging the impact of leaders on social work practice with children and families as Outstanding, alongside Outstanding services for children in care and care leavers, and Good services for children who need help and protection. Inspectors found that children and families now benefit from "consistently high-quality, innovative services that respond to and meet their needs effectively" and recognised the transformational improvements achieved across the partnership.

The inspection highlighted our ambitious leadership, strong workforce culture, effective partnership working and unwavering focus on improving the lives of children and families. Ofsted recognised that Blackpool's co-produced Blackpool Families Rock values and practice model are embedded throughout our work, creating a culture that is genuinely caring, relationship-based and focused on achieving the best possible outcomes for children.

Our stable and experienced leadership team, led by Director of Children's Services Vicky Gent, has remained resolutely focused on children and families, driving sustained improvement and creating an environment where social work can flourish. Inspectors noted that Blackpool Children's Services now has an "extremely committed, motivated and engaged workforce", with practitioners forming enduring relationships with children and providing high-quality, relationship-based support.

At the heart of our success is our investment in social work practice and our people. We believe children achieve the best outcomes when social workers have time to build trusted relationships. That is why we continue to focus on manageable caseloads, high-quality supervision, strong practice development support and excellent learning opportunities.
