Salary- NJC H3 £48,738 - £53,051 per annum

Blackpool Council is seeking two experienced Registered Building Inspectors (minimum Class D), to provide advice on a diverse range of building control cases.  In this role, you will ensure development across the borough meets the highest standards of safety, compliance and customer service.   We are committed to the growth of our team and offer support to help achieve your career aspirations, including pathways to higher registration classes.

The post holder will undertake technical assessments / activities and make decisions based on those assessments using skills that have been gained through professional qualifications and practical experience without supervision on work within your scope of registration.

Duties will involve checking plans and inspecting building work for compliance with Building Regulations 2010 (as amended), other requirements of the Building Act 1984 such as dealing with enforcement of the Building Regulations, enforcement of dangerous structures and demolitions.  

Key Responsibilities:

·       Manage a diverse caseload of Building Regulation applications, inspections and enforcement matters.

·       Provide expert advice to developers, consultees, residents and partner organisations.

·       Respond to dangerous structures by undertaking site inspections and instructing remedial actions using statutory enforcement powers.

·       Prepare legal case files to pursue enforcement action and ensure strict compliance with relevant legislation.

·       Support and mentor Registered Building Inspectors and Technical Support staff to foster team development.

·       Contribute to service improvements ensuring full compliance with Building Safety Regulator and quality assurance frameworks.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

       ·       Registered with Building Safety Regulator as minimum Class 2D (Assessment & Inspection)

·            ·       A degree in building surveying or other related discipline.

·            ·       Full membership in CABE, RICS or MCIOB

·            ·       Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the building control sector

·            ·       In-depth understanding of building construction methods and excellent knowledge of Building Regulations.

·            ·       Full driving licence and access to a vehicle to undertake site visits.
