ST MATTHEW’S CE PRIMARY SCHOOL MIDDAY ASSISTANT As soon as possible following an enhanced DBS check, fixed term until 23 July 2027 St Matthew's is a dynamic and thriving school family who work together to create a fantastic school for our community. We are looking to appoint a caring, positive and enthusiastic Midday Assistant to join our friendly and hardworking team. The successful candidate will help to provide a safe, happy and nurturing environment for our pupils during the lunchtime period. You will supervise children during lunchtime and playtimes, support positive behaviour and relationships, and help ensure that all pupils are safe, included and able to enjoy their lunchtime. The role involves regular contact with children and includes responsibility for supervising and safeguarding pupils during the lunchtime period. We are looking for someone who: Previous experience of working with children is desirable but not essential. The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the successful candidate will therefore be required to disclose relevant criminal record information in accordance with the applicable legislation and DBS filtering rules. Any offer of appointment will be conditional upon satisfactory completion of the appropriate pre-employment and safeguarding checks. These will include, as applicable to the role: an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check including Children's Barred List information, as the post involves regular supervision of children and is subject to the relevant eligibility requirements; References will be sought as part of the school's safer recruitment process and, wherever practicable, before interview. The school reserves the right to contact referees to clarify information provided and to follow up any discrepancies, concerns or matters relevant to the candidate's suitability to work with children. Shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a self-declaration concerning their criminal record and any other information that may make them unsuitable to work with children, in accordance with the school's safer recruitment procedures and applicable legislation. In accordance with KCSIE 2026, the school will undertake an online search of shortlisted candidates as part of its due diligence. The successful candidate will be expected to:
take responsibility for the safety and welfare of pupils within their care during the lunchtime period;
follow the school's safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures;
recognise and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns and report them promptly to the Designated Safeguarding Lead or their deputy;
maintain appropriate professional boundaries with pupils; and
contribute to a culture in which children feel safe, respected, listened to and supported.
