RESOURCED PROVISION CLASS TEACHER AND ASSISTANT SENDCO
STARTING DATE: Monday 12th April 2027
FULL TIME AND PERMANENT
T4 T9 depending on experience + TLR 2C
The Governors at Heathfield Primary School are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity to appoint a highly effective, dedicated and enthusiastic Resourced Provision Teacher and Assistant Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator.
This is a unique opportunity to join the Heathfield family at the very beginning of a brand new Local Authority Resourced Provision for children with autism, and play a key role in shaping its future.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to help develop the provision from the ground up, contributing to the vision, curriculum, environment, systems and approaches that will underpin its success.
Working closely with the SENDCo and leadership team, this is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious SEND professional to make a significant and lasting difference to the lives and outcomes of children and their families.
We are looking for a Resourced Provision Teacher who:
- Has substantial teaching experience, ideally including experience of working with children with SEND and/or autism
- Is passionate about improving outcomes for children with autism, believing that every child can achieve, develop independence and experience success.
- Has high expectations of children with SEND, whilst understanding and responding skilfully to their individual needs, strengths and starting points
- Builds strong, trusting relationships with children, creating a calm, nurturing and inclusive environment in which children feel safe, valued and ready to learn
- Has a secure understanding of autism, including communication differences, sensory needs, emotional regulation and the impact these can have on learning and behaviour
- Is committed to keeping up to date with evidence-informed approaches to supporting children with autism and SEND and translating this knowledge into effective classroom practice
- Can adapt and personalise teaching effectively, using appropriate scaffolding, visuals, communication approaches and carefully structured learning opportunities
- Uses assessment effectively to identify children's strengths, barriers and next steps, tracking small-step progress and using this information to adapt provision, teaching and interventions accordingly
- Is committed to increasing opportunities for children to access mainstream learning, social opportunities and the wider life of the school wherever appropriate, through carefully planned and supported inclusion
- Understands the importance of effective transition and works closely with children, families and professionals to ensure transitions into, through and beyond the RP are carefully planned and successful
- Can provide a highly structured but flexible learning environment, balancing consistency and predictability with the individual needs of each child.
- Has strong classroom practice, with the ability to make learning engaging, purposeful and accessible across the primary curriculum
- Understands that behaviour is communication and responds to children with patience, curiosity and a relational, trauma-informed approach.
- Works collaboratively with colleagues, including teaching assistants, teachers, the SENDCo, external professionals and families, to ensure children receive a coherent and consistent approach
- Is organised and resilient, able to manage the complexity of working with children with a range of needs whilst maintaining high expectations and a positive outlook.
- Communicates exceptionally well with families, recognising parents and carers as important partners in understanding and supporting their child.
- Will contribute positively to the wider school, sharing their SEND expertise and helping to develop an inclusive culture where everyone is a teacher of SEND.
- Is a team player who is willing to learn, collaborate and share good practice, recognising that the RP should be an integral part of the school rather than a separate provision
- Will embrace the Heathfield values and ethos, contributing to a warm, ambitious and inclusive school
As assistant SENDCO we are looking for someone who:
- Can lead, motivate and develop the RP team, including line managing teaching assistants and ensuring consistency in approaches, expectations and provision
- Has a strong understanding of EHCPs and is able to ensure specified provision is implemented, monitored and reviewed effectively
- Can complete EHCP reviews alongside parents/carers and other professionals, ensuring that provision is responsive to children's changing needs
- Can liaise effectively with professionals and implement specialist advice
- Can support the SENDCo in monitoring the quality and impact of SEND provision across school, using assessment, pupil progress and other evidence to identify priorities and improve outcomes
- Can contribute to the strategic development of SEND provision across the school, supporting the SENDCo with SEND priorities, staff development and the implementation of effective inclusive practice
- Is willing to share their specialist knowledge and expertise with colleagues, contributing to the development of inclusive practice across the school
- Will play a full part in the wider life of school, including providing an after-school club for children with SEND and other children
- Has excellent safeguarding knowledge and is already a trained Designated Safeguarding Lead or willing to undertake training to become a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
- Holds the National Award for Special Educational Needs Co-ordination (NASENCO), holds or is working towards the NPQ for SENCOs, or is willing to undertake the appropriate qualification
In joining the Heathfield family, we can offer you:
- A clearly defined leadership role within our Resourced Provision, with the opportunity to work closely with the SENDCo and wider leadership team
- A highly effective school (‘Strong’ in all areas Ofsted 2026)
- A hard working, committed and talented staff team
- A supportive governing board
- A supportive, forward thinking leadership team committed to raising standards and providing a broad and balanced curriculum for all children
- Motivated, enthusiastic and well behaved children with supportive parents
- Excellent CPD to further your professional development
- An exciting opportunity to play a significant role in shaping the future of SEND provision at Heathfield
