For every journey, let’s take first steps together.

At First Steps Together, we believe every child and young person deserves to feel safe, listened to, supported and able to succeed.

We are a growing group of specialist independent schools supporting children and young people with SEND, SEMH and complex presentations. We create calm, consistent and inclusive environments where strong relationships, high expectations and effective safeguarding help pupils overcome barriers and engage successfully in education.

As our Education provision grows, we are looking for an organised, knowledgeable and committed SEND Assistant to help coordinate high-quality SEND provision, remove barriers to learning and ensure pupils receive the personalised support they need to achieve meaningful progress.

What you’ll be doing

As a SEND Assistant, you'll support the day-to-day coordination and delivery of SEND provision within the school, ensuring pupils receive appropriate support that reflects their individual needs, learning targets and Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) outcomes.

You'll maintain accurate SEND registers, provision maps, support plans and pupil records, coordinating the Assess-Plan-Do-Review process and helping ensure interventions and reasonable adjustments are consistently implemented and regularly reviewed.

Alongside coordinating provision, you'll provide one-to-one mentoring and small-group interventions, supporting pupils to develop their communication, emotional regulation, social interaction, confidence and independence. You'll build positive, trusting relationships and adapt your approach to meet individual learning, developmental and sensory needs.

You'll work closely with school leaders, teachers, therapists, families and external professionals, supporting EHCP annual reviews, gathering evidence of pupil progress and helping colleagues implement effective SEND strategies.

You'll also monitor pupil progress, evaluate the impact of interventions and contribute to improving inclusive practice, ensuring SEND provision remains responsive, well organised and focused on positive outcomes for every pupil.

Bring your difference

We're looking for someone with experience of supporting children and young people with SEND or additional needs, alongside a good understanding of inclusive practice, reasonable adjustments and the importance of removing barriers to learning.

You'll have experience of maintaining accurate records, monitoring progress or coordinating pupil support, with an understanding of SEND Support, EHCPs and the Assess-Plan-Do-Review process.

You'll bring strong organisation, communication and attention to detail, with the confidence to work independently, manage competing priorities and collaborate effectively with teachers, families and other professionals.

You'll be calm, empathetic and solution-focused, combining positive relationships with high expectations, professional curiosity and a commitment to safeguarding and inclusion.

Experience contributing to EHCP annual reviews, SEND provision mapping or targeted interventions, or a relevant Level 3 qualification or above in education, SEND or a related field, would be an advantage.

Why First Steps Together?

You'll join a supportive and growing specialist education group in a rewarding school-based, term-time role where you'll play an important part in coordinating SEND provision and improving outcomes for children and young people.

We'll provide comprehensive induction and ongoing support, alongside training and development in SEND, safeguarding, inclusive practice and specialist approaches to supporting pupils with additional needs.

You'll work alongside experienced colleagues within our SEND and Inclusion Team, with opportunities for continued professional development and career progression.

Bring your difference. Take your next step with First Steps Together.
