About the communications service
Communications is a core function that support the organisation as a whole – across all portfolios and directorates. Our core responsibilities are:
To protect and promote the Council’s reputation, integrity and identity, nationally, regionally and locally, including through proactive media management strategies.
To design, deliver and promote campaigns that help the city and the organisation achieve its priorities.
To design, deliver and promote campaigns and communications that give residents clear information, advice and guidance, signposting to council services and to promote activities, events and opportunities to people living, working and visiting Salford.
To provide professional communications advice to the Council’s leadership, with a view to promotion of the city’s and City Council’s key priorities and values.
We are strengthening our corporate communications function through additional resourcing and a new operating model. We need people to help us to deliver on corporate priorities and our new communications strategy.
This is an exciting time to join Salford City Council; there is major regeneration work underway across the city, alongside internal changes including the Adult Social Care workforce returning in-house through the Unify project (1000+ employees). There are opportunities to influence the national, regional and local government agenda.

Our Vacancies:
Strategic Communications Manager – Media and News
Work alongside and support the work of senior colleagues to develop and deliver key communications strategies for the organisation. Managing the delivery of the agreed Communications Strategy.
Support the Head of Communications to provide high level communications advice to the political and officer leadership, elected members, and officers on communications and reputational management.
Deputise for the Head of Service in providing public relations advice to the organisation and in public relations management of the service area.
Lead a proactive and forward planned approach to external agencies and media relations and ensuring our profile is on a local, regional and national stage.
Support in the delivery of culture change across the organisation, to develop a ‘comms first’ approach, and a digital-first approach wherever practicable.
Change Communications Officer
As Change Communications Officer for Salford City Council you will support the strategic communication of organisation-wide priority transformation and change projects, including the in-sourcing of approximately 1,000 employees from three organisations.
You will report to and support the Senior Change Communications Officer in delivering a change communications strategy and plans to ensure that complex transformation programmes are clearly understood, embraced and successfully implemented on time, with people at its centre, and aligned to the council’s priorities, culture and values.
You will support the effective delivery of inclusive, purposeful communication using a blend of channels, face-to-face engagement and creative storytelling to reach people working in desk-based, frontline and essential service roles.
You will support services across the council and partner organisations to ensure current and future colleagues understand key decisions, feel part of a shared mission, and have the information they need to deliver for Salford’s residents.

Internal Communications Officer
As Internal Communications Officer at Salford City Council, you will deliver day-to-day internal communications activity for the authority, in line with the council’s developing communications strategy and objectives and which aligns with corporate priorities.
Work with the Senior Internal Communications Officer, on an agreed and forward-planned programme of effective internal communication activity that meets the needs of the organisation and works to new, exciting and engaging ways to most effectively reach and engage with all parts of our 4,500 staff working across desk-based, frontline and essential services.
Support the delivery of strategic internal communications plans and activities which build trust and engagement with staff.
Adult Social Care Communications Officer
As a Communications Officer for adult social care at Salford City Council, you will develop and deliver strategic campaigns plans in line with the council’s communications strategy and corporate priorities.
Plan, deliver and evaluate impactful communications campaigns that deliver the council’s strategic priorities, with a focus on adult social care. You will help to build public trust, and foster meaningful engagement with a range of audiences.
You will deliver effective two-way communication between the organisation and a range of audiences using channels including campaigns, media relations, digital and social media, with a positive proactive focus.
